In the footage, a man in a red sweatshirt is sitting in the passenger seat of a car with the dog standing between his legs while his friends film him.
He then hits the dog hard on the head with his right hand, causing it to fall across his knee and then thumps the animal with his other hand.

He then hits the poor animal on the side of the head with such force that it ends up on his lap
As his friends video the attack, the man begins repeatedly hitting the dog
Despite being hit several times across its head, the dog doesn't retaliate
The thug then repeatedly hits the dog on the head, while beckoning his friends, who are all laughing, to keep filming.
The clip was shared on Twitter by the blog Protect All Wildlife and has been seen by millions over the past few days
According to Protect All Wildlife those responsible have been arrested though the dog itself has since died.
The video, which is believed to have been made in Iran or Iraq, was shared the comedian and creator of The Office Ricky Gervais.
Gervais said: 'Who are these dirty, sub-human c****? Surely someone knows?.
'This video is f***ing horrible by the way and shows a beautiful dog being hurt, in case you don't want to watch.'
Protect All Wildlife is run by mental health nurse Paul Christian, from York, who dedicates his spare time to raising awareness of animal abuse.
The 57-year-old shared the horrific video after seeing it on his timeline.
He told Mirror Online: 'It just horrified me that people were doing it the fact that others were filming it and getting enjoyment out of it.'
