Trump: My Other Lawyers Are 'Deflated And Concerned' They Will Be Raided Too
President Donald Trump has suggested that his lawyers are concerned they will be raided following the FBI’s search of his personal lawyer Michael Cohen’s home, hotel room and office last Monday.
Trump’s tweet on the matter comes almost a week after Cohen was raided, with the president having previously made it clear he was deeply unhappy about the raid.
“Attorney Client privilege is now a thing of the past. I have many (too many!) lawyers and they are probably wondering when their offices, and even homes, are going to be raided with everything, including their phones and computers, taken. All lawyers are deflated and concerned!” the president tweeted on Sunday.
During the raid on Cohen, the FBI seized documents relating to the $130,000 “hush money” paid by Cohen to adult film actress Stormy Daniels, who claims she had an affair with Donald Trump shortly after the birth of his youngest son Barron, The Hill reported.
And the raid, which Cohen’s lawyer said came following a referral from Special Counsel Robert Mueller, appears to have further soured the president’s view of Mueller, with Trump’s post-raid comments prompting fears the president was looking into dismissing Mueller.
“It's, frankly, a real disgrace. It's an attack on our country, in a true sense. It's an attack on what we all stand for,” Trump said of the raid shortly after it took place, also stating that “Many people have said, ‘You should fire [Mueller].’”
Trump is also said to be annoyed with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein for approving the search warrant for the raid on Cohen, The New York Times reported.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders followed Trump’s comments on Mueller by stating the president “certainly believes he has the power” to fire the special counsel, in a comment that appeared to go against the Code of Federal Regulations’ guidance that a special counsel can only be dismissed by the attorney general.
