Former AC Milan midfielder Andrea Pirlo has set a date for his testimonial match
It will take place on May 21 at the San Siro where Pirlo, 38, won multiple trophies
Pirlo said: 'It's the chance to share a special evening doing what we love most'
AC Milan legend Andrea Pirlo will get to play at the San Siro one final time.
The 38-year-old former midfielder — who won two Serie A titles, two Champions Leagues, a FIFA Club World Cup and a Coppa Italia crown during a decade with Milan — called time on his playing career at the end of last year.
Pirlo will celebrate his career — which also featured spells at Brescia, Inter, Reggina, Juventus and most recently New York City FC — in a testimonial match at his favourite stadium on May 21.
It will take place in May at the San Siro where he spent more than 10 years with Inter and Milan
The match will raise money for charity and Pirlo said: 'It's the chance to share a special evening doing what we love most.
'The game will be at San Siro, the venue for so many battles over the years, on May 21.'
Pirlo, speaking in his hometown of Brescia where he was presented with an award, has tried his hand at punditry since hanging up his boots and he is keen to stay in football in some capacity.
He added: 'I only ever played football, so I think I'll remain in this world. Becoming a coach is a hypothesis, but I don't know yet.
'I need to unwind for a while, then I'll have time to decide what I want to do.
'I have no regrets, as it was the right moment to stop and I made the choice. I'm happy.'
