Secret Service: Man dead after shooting himself near White House

A man is dead after shooting himself in the head near the White House, according to the U.S. Secret Service.
The are no other reported injuries related to the Saturday morning incident at the north fence line of the presidential mansion.
In a statement, the Secret Service said the man approached the vicinity of the fence just before noon, removed a concealed handgun and fired several rounds. At this time, none of the shots appeared to have been aimed at the White House.
The White House was placed on lockdown. President Donald Trump was in Florida during the shooting, but he was set to return to Washington later in the day.
The man's identity is being withheld while next of kin are notified.
The incident comes amid a debate over gun control and mental illness that has engulfed Washington.
