A Mount Healthy man has been arrested on charges that he raped a woman in her Colerain Township home and set fire to the house, injuring officers who came in response to a neighbor's 911 call.
Johnny Richardson, 52, is charged with two counts of aggravated arson, abduction and rape, according to court documents. He was arraigned May 21 and is held on a $480,000 bond $100,000 straight on as he awaits a grand jury report due May 30.
Three police officers suffered minor smoke inhalation in the incident Sunday night, authorities said.
According to records from the Hamilton County Communications Center, Richardson entered the home of a 45-year-old woman and attacked her, the victim said. She was able to escape and ran to a neighbor's house to call police.
Two police officers from Colerain Township and one from Springfield Township arrived at the residence in the 2400 block of Aquarius Drive around 9 p.m., said Jim Love, Colerain police spokesman.
Officers noticed smoke coming from a locked bedroom where a man was reportedly hiding, Love said. Police tried to get get the man out, but smoke from the fire was getting heavy and they began to draw back. The smoke drove the man hiding in the room to leave as well, and he fought with police.
Love said an officer from Springfield Township had to use a taser to take Richardson into custody. Police arrested him and he was taken to the Hamilton County Justice Center.
Colerain fire units found heavy fire from the rear of the structure and through the roof. Fire crews from Colerain, Springfield Township, Mount Healthy and North College Hill knocked the fire down from outside, then entered the building and completed extinguishing the fire.Love said Colerain police officers Chris Goldschmidt and Adam Wood and Springfield Township Police Officer Eric Robinson were treated and released for smoke inhalation at Mercy West Hospital in Green Township.
The damage from the fire has been estimated to be $30,000 to $40,000.
The fire remains under investigation.
This was the second large fire Colerain crews battled Sunday.
The Colerain Fire Department reported that fire crews responded to a reported structure fire in the attic of a home in the 8300 block of Althaus Road at  1:15 p.m.
Firefighters found smoke coming from the eaves of the home which had already been evacuated by the owners. Crews found heavy fire in the attic. Water supply was limited as the home is 3,000 off the roadway, according to the fire department.
Units from Whitewater, Green, Ross, and Morgan Townships provided equipment and manpower to assist Colerain firefighters. The fire was out within 15 minutes.
The Colerain Fire Investigative Unit is investigating the cause of this fire which caused about $40,000 in damages to the structure and contents.
